Safety Challenge

The Fire Department puts on a Children's Safety Challenge several times a year. This was our first time to go because Mase had to be 4. The boys loved it. The learned all sorts of things about safety. They learned to crawl under smoke, to always know 2 ways out of a room, to meet your family at your meeting place if your house is on fire, never to go back inside once you are out, and to stop, drop, and roll. We even had to draw a diagram of our house and mark all the exits to our meeting place. When you ask Mase how he will get out of his room if there is a fire he always says that he'll break the window. He is perfectly capable of opening all the windows in the house, but he wants to break them. His plan is to throw his dresser through the window.
Fire safety was not the only thing they learned. They learned to look left-right-left before crossing the street, bike safety, never to taste something if they don't know what it is, school bus safety, and to always wear a life jacket at a lake, river, or ocean and always go with an adult.
On Saturday the boys were able to show us some of the stuff they learned. They both said their favorite thing was driving the peddle cars.
They drove the peddle cars to the 'fire'. Mase even stopped for the red light.
They practiced knocking down the door.
They sprayed water on the 'fire' to put it out.
They they drug Rescue Randy to safety.
They had a wonderful time. We have already signed up for the Oct. class!
